What is the “Dichiarazione di Valore”

The “Declaration of Value” (DV) is a document that certifies the value of a qualification obtained in an education system other than the Italian one.

It is drawn up in Italian and issued by the Italian Diplomatic Missions abroad (Embassies / Consulates) “competent by area”, i.e. the closest to the city where the institution that issued the foreign qualification is located.

How to Get a Dichiarazione di Valore

  • Step 1: Find out which Italian consulate is going to help you. Is it the consulate nearest to where you went to school or the consulate nearest to where you live now? Call them and verify who has jurisdiction.
  • Step 2: Obtain official copies of your college transcripts and diploma.
  • Step 3: Have the copies translated into Italian. The translation must be officially certified.
  • Step 4: Have the transcripts (and the grading scale) translated into Italian.  These also have to be official translations.
